Spokane County GOP Rebukes WSU for Involvement in Lisa Brown Campaign
Spokane, WA, September 1, 2017 – Spokane County Republican Party Chair Stephanie Cates today called on Washington State University to stop the use of their facilities, employees, and materials in Lisa Brown’s Congressional campaign.
“I was shocked to see that a full-time employee of Washington State University used university facilities to promote her candidacy,” said Cates. “The university should act immediately to disavow the campaign video using their facilities and to have it removed from circulation.”
Lisa Brown was a full-time employee of WSU when she organized her campaign. She did not leave university employment until September 1, today. Brown announced her candidacy on Wednesday, August 30.
In a campaign video, she is shown in WSU facilities, with WSU employees in a ceremony staged for the campaign cameras at the new medical school.
“Her actions are a disgrace, to politicize the university that is the pride of Eastern Washington. What’s more, the university depends on bipartisan support in the Legislature for its very existence. It is unbelievably shoddy for her to tarnish WSU for her own selfish political goals,” Cates said.
“An employee who is paid $360,000 a year should know the rules and know how to behave ethically. I would say that she should be fired and her contract not renewed but that seems to have already happened. I’m calling on WSU to thoroughly investigate her use of state facilities,” Cates said.
