Statement by Spokane GOP Chair Stephanie Cates on Commissioner Vacancy for Spokane County District 2
“I and the rest of the Spokane GOP leadership had hoped that Commissioners French and Kerns could come to an agreement today on one candidate to fill the vacancy for Commissioner District 2.
“Since they arrived at a stalemate, by state law, the selection will now go to the Governor. Jay Inslee must pick from the three candidates that our Republican Precinct Committee Officers nominated at our August 5 meeting.
“The good news is that because the Republican PCOs chose three well-qualified individuals to be considered, Spokane County residents can have confidence that whomever the Governor selects will have the skill set necessary to step into this important role on Day 1.
“The voters in Spokane County will then have a say on the District 2 Commissioner seat during the 2018 election cycle. The Spokane GOP anticipates keeping the Board of County Commissioners in the hands of strong, capable Republican leadership for years to come.”
