Resolution to Support Spokane City Police Chief Craig Meidl, Spokane City Mayor Nadine Woodward and all Spokane County Police and Law Enforcement Personnel
This Resolution was unanimously approved by the Spokane County GOP Central Committee Executive Board on April 4th, 2023.
Whereas, We, as a Party, support the Constitution of the United States of America, along with the Bill of Rights and Amendments thereof, as well of the State of Washington, and all of the provisions, responsibilities, rights and limitations enumerated therein; and,
Whereas, the Right to free, safe and fair trade amongst persons and businesses, in the conduct of ordinary and daily life, are encompassed in those Rights; and,
Whereas, Businesses and individuals in the County and City of Spokane have the right to such safe and fair interaction, and to be secure in their life, personal affects and existence; and,
Whereas, the Spokane City Police Chief, as well as the City and County elected and appointed government officials have sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States and of the State of Washington, as well as the Laws and Statutes of said County and City, and are obligated to provide the best service to the citizens of same; and
Whereas, certain actions have been taken by the Spokane City Police Chief and/or employees of that Police Department in attempts to provide within the Law such support and interaction with certain business owners and organizations as seen best to fit with their responsibilities and requirements, including providing publicly allowed data, with which any such business owners and individuals, as well as any government officials and employees, or any other community members, can conduct their affairs as best to secure their property and persons and others within the community; and,
Whereas, for which actions the Spokane City Police Chief and others have been publicly condemned by certain Progressive organizations and public individuals as being “racist” and other epithets, as well as being called upon to resign and be replaced; and finally,
Whereas, the Spokane City Mayor has defended such actions of the Spokane City Police Chief as within the Law and within reasonable conduct,
Now therefore be it resolved, that the Spokane County Republican Central Committee Executive Board states its support and commendation to, and confidence in, the Spokane City Police Chief Craig Meidl, the employees and staff of the Spokane Police Department, for their reasonable and lawful support of the business community and all those individuals who work to secure this community from all forms of danger and crime; and
Be It further resolved, that the Spokane County Republican Central Committee Executive Board offers it commendation and support to Spokane City Mayor Nadine Woodward for her support and assistance she and her staff have provided to the Spokane Police Chief, and that Department, and to Spokane’s business owners, residents, and other members of this community, in reducing crime and other dangers to this community.
